HOW TO SAVE MORE WHEN BUYING A BOAT
If you’re looking to buy a new boat, there are a number of simple things you can do to get a good deal. We’ve blogged our top tips for buying a new boat, so you can save more when you make the big purchase.

Here’s what you need to know.

  1. Buy in winter

Dealerships may inflate boat prices during summer as a result of higher demand during this busy season. With this in mind, consider approaching dealers during winter, so you can take advantage of lower pricing.

  1. End of the month is best

Car dealers, boat dealers and other sales people tend to have monthly quotas they need to meet in order to achieve bonuses, or other rewards. A boat dealer is more likely to want to shift stock at the end of the month to meet their quota, so buying at this time is a good strategy.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask

When you’re looking to buy a new boat, don’t be afraid to ask the dealer how cheap they can go. Alternatively, ask them to shave a specific amount off the price and see if they are willing to negotiate. Many are, especially if you catch them at the right time.

  1. Go to different dealerships

It’s worth visiting different dealerships to compare pricing and to ensure asking prices are fair and consistent. It may take some time, but if you end up paying less for your boat, it’s certainly worth it.

  1. Ask for extras

While you’re negotiating, don’t be afraid to ask for extras, such as an extended warranty or a store voucher. Many dealers will be happy to throw these into the sale, as they know sweetening the deal will improve their chances of selling the boat.

  1. Go to a boat show

If boat shows are happening in your areas, then they’re a great place to get a good price on a new boat. At a boat show, you’ll find many different dealers competing to make a sale, which means they’re more likely to be open to negotiating with you.

  1. Take your time

Buying a brand new boat is a process that should not be rushed, as you’re more likely to make impulsive decisions that don’t serve your best interests. Once you find the right boat you are likely to have it for years to come, so keep this big picture in mind when you’re searching.
